California’s Ban On Assault Weapons Overturned Again

By

A federal judge in San Diego has overturned California’s ban on assault weapons for the second time, saying it prohibits guns that are no more dangerous than weapons that aren’t banned in the state.

Governor Newsom calls the decision by U.S. District Court Judge Roger Benitez another “radical ruling, comparing an assault rifle to a bowie knife.” Newsom called it “a direct insult to every victim of a mass shooting and their families.”

State Attorney General Bonta’s office will appeal the decision to the Ninth Circuit and seek a further stay pending appeal.
