California Energy Regulators Make Costly Changes to Solar Panel Incentives For Homes, Schools, Businesses

The California Public Utilities Commission voted to update solar power incentives for businesses, apartment buildings and schools, and critics are saying the changes actually amount to disincentives.

Anthony Wexler with the Air Quality Research Center at UC Davis says with the new rules, you won’t get as much of a rebate as you used to.

Also built into the new rules is a mandate that raises the installers wages, therefore increasing the cost of the panels. The commission reduced homeowner solar incentives last December.

Commissioners said the changes are needed to reverse what they call unfair subsidies.
