The California Supreme Court says it will weigh in on whether a new initiative will be on next year’s ballot. The “Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act” would give voters more power over state and local attempts at raising taxes and fees.

Sponsors of the initiative say: “California taxpayers have made it abundantly clear they want control over their government and how much they are taxed.” McGeorge School of Law Professor Chris Micheli said the case will determine: “What’s the extent of the power of the people and what’s the extent of the legislative power?”
