Sacramento May Require Affordable Housing in Some Developments

By

/

The City of Sacramento is considering measures to address the housing affordability issue. The idea they’re exploring is to restore an older policy, that would require developers to build a portion of affordable housing, or pay a fee to the city. The council is divided on the issue.

Some council members question whether putting the requirements would achieve the goal, or end with unintended consequences, namely that the new regulations would hinder housing construction which would result in higher rents.

The City Council will vote on the issue this spring.
