Asian American leaders in the Bay Area are demanding justice in the death of an elderly woman in their community last summer. They’re asking that the case of Yanfang Wu be reopened and pursued as a hate crime. Wu died last year after being knocked to the ground near a bus stop in San Francisco’s Bayview District.
Police reviewed surveillance video and ruled it as an accident. AAPI leaders and other activists are also calling on the city to release the video to the public.
This comes after the same person who pushed Wu was arrested for allegedly attacking another Asian woman on Gilman Street in March.
