Oakland police say they arrested three suspects for breaking into a business in the Embarcadero neighborhood on March 28th. It’s a relief to residents living in houseboats and yachts on the waterfront, after almost a year of thefts and even physical assaults from the so-called “East Bay Pirates.”
Police say vagrants from Oakland’s homeless camps used small boats to raid the larger vessels. Last summer suspects stole boats, stripping them of belongings, and sinking the ships or dumping their belongings miles away in the Oakland Harbor.
The suspects were seen on surveillance video breaking into a business March 13th. Search warrants of their boats turned up stolen property.
