Two San Francisco County jails are locked down right now.  Ken Lomba, who is the president of the union that represents sheriff’s deputies, says inmates have attacked deputies nine times in the past three weeks.

The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association is demanding the California National Guard help with the staffing shortage.  But the sheriff says that’s not the answer and believes they can respond to the recent safety issues and behaviors internally.  Still, all visits at jail two and three are canceled through today.  The department says normal jail operations should resume next week but didn’t give an exact date.
