Monterey has installed three Narcan Now boxes on Friday, so more people have access to the medication.
Narcan can quickly reverse a drug overdose including from heroin and fentanyl.
“In California, drug-related overdose deaths in the second quarter of 2023 reached 10,985, just shy of the 11,002 recorded for the entire 2022,” said Monterey Police in a media release. “Similarly, in Monterey County, the second quarter of 2023 saw 109 deaths, surpassing the total of 88 for 2022.”
The boxes are at three locations: Monterey Transit Plaza, the police department, and Monterey Outreach and Navigation Center.
