San Francisco State Senator Scott Wiener is once again trying to pass a bill to allow the regulated use of psychedelics.  The new version is in direct response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s veto of a similar proposal last year.

Newsom asked the legislature to come back with a bill which includes therapeutic guidelines for use.  Wiener’s legislature would create the Board of Psychedelic Facilitators under the Department of Consumer Affairs, which will license and regulate professional facilitators.  Once that happens, the facilitators supervise access to certain substances like mushrooms, DMT, mescaline and MDMA which are produced and tested by licensed entities.

The bill passed the Senate public safety committee three-to-two and now heads to appropriations.
