A second California city is vowing to divest from companies doing business in Israel.
Richmond in Contra Costa County voted 5-to-1 to divest. “One thing we can do actively, is divestment. And thanks to the student movement, they brought it out to our attention again. It was the right time,” says Richmond City Councilmember Soheila Bana, who co-authored the resolution.
Councilmembers say this was the right time after becoming the first city in the nation to pass a ceasefire resolution over the Middle East war, supporting Palestinians in Gaza. They’re now the second ever to take this new action behind Hayward.
