The state is suing a Northern California school district over what it calls a controversial gender notification policy adopted last year.
The Rocklin Unified School District approved a policy in September that requires schools to notify parents if their kids request to be identified as anything other than their biological sex, if they want to use a different name or pronouns or ask to use bathrooms that don’t align with their gender. The state’s Department of Education is now seeking a court order against the district, calling the policy discriminatory.
CDE also notes the policy doesn’t further any educational purpose.
