Two Bills Opposing Transgender Athletics Rejected

Two proposed bills to ban transgender athletes from competing in female sports have been rejected.  Assembly Bill 89 would have established a ban on athletes born as male to compete on a girls’ interscholastic sports team.  Meanwhile, AB 844 would have reversed laws allowing trans athletes to compete in female sports starting from elementary school and up through college.  Governor Gavin Newsom was absent from the meeting after making previous comments stating transgender athletes in female sports made it “deeply unfair.
