Governor Newsom is urging governors from both parties to oppose President Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops to states without consent. He calls it a threat to state rights and warned that California might leave the National Governors Association if the group remains silent. Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois is also threatening to leave the association.
President Trump has deployed troops to cities like Chicago and Portland, prompting legal challenges and a federal judge has already halted some deployments.
