A 29-year-old man is behind bars in connection with the deadly Palisades Fire in California. The man, who was arrested in Florida on Tuesday, is accused of starting the Lachman Fire shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. The fire was put out, but continued to smolder underground. Strong Santa Ana winds caused it to flare back up on January 7th, becoming the Palisades Fire, one of the most destructive fires in California history. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli says the man was initially interviewed by authorities on January 24th. He allegedly lied to them about where he was on the night the Lachman Fire started.
