Much of California is about to see a big shift in the weather. The National Weather Service is calling for a major cool-down, with high temperatures dropping about 20 degrees. Sacramento and other parts of Northern California could see about half an inch of rain Monday into Tuesday. There is also a chance of high elevation snow, which could impact the commute through the Sierra mountain passes.
Meanwhile, Southern California could see up to two inches of rain Monday through Wednesday. Also, storm preparations are underway in and near the Eaton Fire burn scar. A winter-like storm arriving later today could bring up to three-and-a-half inches of rain to the mountains and foothills. That could trigger flooding, mud and debris flows. The city of Pasadena has installed K-Rails to protect the most at-risk areas. It is also offering sandbags at fire stations 37 and 38. Officials are urging Pasadena and Altadena residents to be prepared to evacuate.
