California Attorney General Rob Bonta is facing new questions about nearly half a million dollars his reelection campaign quietly spent on legal help this year. Campaign filings show Bonta’s 2026 reelection committee paid 468-thousand dollars to the law firm Wilson Sonsini, just two days before he announced he wouldn’t run for governor.
His adviser confirmed to KCRA-TV that the money covered legal work related to the federal bribery probe involving former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and the Duong family. His team says he hired outside counsel to help “pursue justice,” but won’t say how much of the work was for Bonta himself.
