A former chief of staff to Xavier Becerra is pleading guilty to several charges. Sean McCluskie is pleading guilty to conspiracy and to stealing 225-thousand dollars from Becerra’s dormant campaign fund. McCluskie worked with lobbyist Greg Campbell to disguise the theft, falsely claiming that McCluskie’s wife provided services. McCluskie claims he will repay the stolen funds. He’s set for sentencing on February 26th. Campbell has also pleaded guilty and intends to close his lobbying firm.
Also facing charges in this case is Dana Williamson. She’s Governor Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff. Williamson has pleaded not guilty and is out on bond with a court appearance set for next month.
