The DOJ is suing California over a law that allows undocumented immigrants to pay lower tuition rates at state colleges. The lawsuit claims California’s education code unfairly charges out-of-state U.S. citizens higher tuition than those living in the country illegally. The DOJ argues that it discriminates against U.S. citizens by denying them the same benefits, encourages illegal immigration, and conflicts with federal laws. The suit also seeks to prevent California from enforcing its “California Dream Act,” which provides financial aid to undocumented students.
