A federal judge has blocked the deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles. Judge Charles Breyer turned away a claim from the Trump administration that recent protests against immigration officials was a rebellion that justified taking federal control of the state’s National Guard units. Breyer also ordered for control of the troops to return to the state’s governor. Breyer said in the 35-page order that “The founders designed our government to be a system of checks and balance,” Breyer said Wednesday. “Defendants, however, make clear that the only check they want is a blank one.”
