Tolls on seven Bay Area state-owned bridges will increase by 50 cents on January 1st, marking the first of annual hikes over the next five years. The increases affect the San Francisco-Oakland Bay, Antioch, Benicia-Martinez, Carquinez, Dumbarton, Richmond-San Rafael, and San Mateo-Hayward bridges, raising two-axle car and truck tolls from eight-dollars to eight-dollars-50-cents. Future FasTrak rates are set to reach nine-dollars by 2027, with pre-registered license plate accounts at 9.25 and invoiced tolls at ten-dollars. Carpool rules will also change: three or more people will be required for half-price tolls on weekdays, with some bridges allowing two-person vehicles to use carpool lanes without the discount. Officials say funds will support bridge maintenance and operations.
