Norovirus, or stomach flu is spreading in California. Norovirus is incredibly contagious and a new strain is driving 50 percent more cases than usual.
Experts say if someone is sick with norovirus at home, wiping down surfaces with a bleach solution is more effective than soap and water. You can get the virus from someone who’s sick, but you can also get it from contaminated surfaces like foods, counters, doors, and furniture.
Officials say levels of the virus in wastewater is especially high in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Norovirus outbreaks are most common in the colder months starting in November through April.
