Beach Hazards Statement For Bay Area Beaches
The National Weather Service warns that Bay Area beaches could see dangerous waves up to 20 feet and strong rip currents through today. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for the North Bay, San Francisco, the Peninsula, Santa Cruz County, and Monterey County. Big waves and rip currents make it dangerous for swimmers and beachgoers. There is also a small chance of thunderstorms coupled with strong winds and poor visibility along the coast.
Stay Out of the Ocean at Los Angeles County Beaches
Los Angeles County Public Health Officials want you to stay out of the water at all county beaches. This week’s ongoing rain may be driving dangerous bacteria levels into the ocean, especially near storm drains, creeks, and rivers. Officials say runoff can carry chemicals, debris, and other health hazards, and anyone going into the ocean can get sick, in some cases very sick. The advisory remains in effect through at least Monday morning, December 29, and could be extended if rain continues.
