President Trump says the U.S. conducted “a large scale strike” on Venezuela and President Nicolas Maduro has been captured and flown out of the country. Former deputy national security advisor to Trump Victoria Coates backs the operation.
Maduro was indicted in New York in 2020 during Trump’s first term on drug trafficking and terrorism charges. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Maduro and his wife were arrested by U.S. forces and will stand trial on “criminal charges” in the U.S. Rubio had said he anticipates “no further action in Venezuela.” Venezuelan news video shows explosions overnight in Caracas with U.S. helicopters flying overhead. Reports say Maduro and his wife were captured by the Army’s Delta Force. Maduro’s capture follows months of U.S. military strikes on suspected Venezuelan drug boats.
