San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is considering a run for California governor. Mahan says he’ll decide in the next couple of weeks whether to move forward with his candidacy. If he doesn’t run, Mahan wants other candidates to consider his approach to state issues, like focusing on temporary shelters for the homeless instead of only building permanent affordable housing. In December, he invited several candidates to see a homeless housing site in San Jose. Other candidates for governor include Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell and former Congresswoman Katie Porter, and Republican Steve Hilton. Governor Newsom’s term ends in November. The deadline for candidates to enter the race is March 6th.
