The California Senate Republican Caucus is asking Governor Gavin Newsom to call a special legislative session on the oil and gas cost and supply crisis. In a letter, state senators say they have “grave concerns” about the state’s oil and gas market. It comes with two refineries in California scheduled to shut down this year. Lawmakers are warning of “catastrophic effects,” including economic and service cuts, along with declining revenues. The Republican Caucus is also asking Newsom to repeal what it calls “arbitrary and unrealistic” mandates on producers, refiners, importers and consumers. The Republican state senators say the Newsom administration has failed to protect consumers and advance sound economic environmental policy. The letter says California’s economy is “on the brink of collapse” if lawmakers do not immediately step in.
