President Trump has signed an executive order to speed up the wildfire rebuilding process in Los Angeles County. The order, titled “Accelerating rebuilding in wildfire-devastated Los Angeles” was signed Friday and confirmed by the White House this morning. Trump is promising to slash bureaucratic red tape and speed up reconstruction in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. In his decree, Trump blames Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass for “catastrophic failures” in preparing for wildfires, fighting them and managing the rebuilding process. The president also says local and state leaders ignored forest management needs, managed water systems poorly and failed to smooth out the permitting process for rebuilding. It’s unclear what exact impact the order will have.
