San Francisco teachers are going on strike. Thousands of teachers are set to walk out of the classroom Monday, engaging in the first strike by San Francisco educators in nearly five decades. The San Francisco Unified School District and the teachers union have been negotiating for months on a new contract but have been unable to come to terms on pay increases, health coverage for family members, and putting a hard cap on class sizes. The last strike by San Francisco teachers took place in 1979 and lasted seven weeks.
