The Pasadena Police Department has released dash camera footage from an accidental shooting involving two officers that occurred inside the department’s parking garage last September. According to officials, the incident began when one officer drove up to another officer in the garage. The officer who was standing outside reportedly drew his firearm, prompting the officer inside the patrol vehicle to also draw his weapon.
As the officer in the squad car attempted to place the firearm back into its holster, the weapon discharged unintentionally. The bullet traveled through the vehicle’s windshield and struck the other officer in the shoulder. Emergency medical assistance was provided, and the injured officer later recovered from the wound.
Pasadena Police Chief Eugene Harris described the event as a case of “horseplay” between the officers that resulted in a serious and preventable accident. He confirmed that an internal review was conducted following the shooting and that disciplinary measures were taken against those involved. The department recently released the video as part of its public disclosure process.
