Bay Area health officials are warning residents about a potential measles exposure after an infected traveler passed through San Francisco International Airport and later visited two markets in San Jose earlier this week. Public health authorities are working to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the individual during the contagious period. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department is urging anyone who is unvaccinated and may have been exposed to quarantine and monitor for symptoms, which can include fever, cough, runny nose, and a distinctive rash. Officials emphasize that measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air even after an infected person has left an area. California has recorded 49 measles cases so far in 2026. Prior to this latest alert, the state had reported only one case in the previous month, which occurred in Los Angeles. This year’s measles cases have resulted in three hospitalizations statewide, though no deaths have been reported.
