Thousands of California drivers could lose their driving privileges after the California DMV identified irregularities involving written driver’s license exams. The agency has notified about 11,000 motorists that their previous test results may be invalid because of what it describes as “testing anomalies.” Officials have not provided specific details about the irregularities but say affected drivers must retake the written exam within 30 days of receiving their notification letter. Those who fail to complete the retest within the required timeframe, or do not pass the new exam, could have their driver’s licenses revoked. The DMV is instructing drivers to bring the notification letter along with their instruction permit, temporary driver’s license, or current driver’s license card to their appointment. The agency says the retesting requirement is necessary to protect the integrity of the licensing process and ensure all drivers meet California’s knowledge standards before remaining legally licensed to drive on public roads.
