A Los Angeles police officer is pleading not guilty to charges that he illegally recorded conversations involving his coworkers. Daniel Flores faces 16 counts of unlawful recording and could receive up to 13 years in prison if convicted. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office alleges Flores secretly recorded his colleagues 122 times while working in the LAPD’s Recruitment and Employment Division in 2024. Prosecutors say some of the recordings captured LAPD employees allegedly making sexist, homophobic, and racist remarks. Flores has denied wrongdoing and filed a hostile-workplace lawsuit against the city in July. In the lawsuit, he claims the recordings were made as part of what he describes as a “lawful investigation” into workplace conditions. The recordings are now at the center of both the criminal case and Flores’ lawsuit against the city. The case remains ongoing, and Flores is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
