Eaton Fire survivors are traveling to Sacramento to build support for a proposed $25 million rebuilding fund aimed at helping Altadena residents recover from the devastating wildfire. More than 100 survivors, workers, and community leaders made the trip this week to urge state lawmakers to support the proposed CARE Fund. Advocates say the funding would help residents rebuild their homes and return to their communities more than a year and a half after the fire. Supporters also say the proposal would expand affordable housing opportunities for displaced renters and working families who have struggled to find stable housing since the disaster. Several state lawmakers have already expressed support for Eaton Fire survivors and the proposed assistance. Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office points to existing state recovery programs and continues urging the federal government to provide additional disaster funding. Advocates say more financial assistance is needed to help Altadena recover and prevent longtime residents from being priced out of returning home.
