Residents in a Pasadena neighborhood are outraged after video appeared to show a mail carrier attacking a local peacock named Sugar. Neighbors say Sugar is a familiar fixture in the community, although they acknowledge the white peacock can sometimes become aggressive. Video recorded last week appears to show the mail carrier throwing water or another liquid and rocks at Sugar before striking the bird with a club. Sugar is seen flopping around and eventually collapsing in the street before the mail carrier drives away, leaving the injured and disoriented bird behind. The Pasadena Humane Society is investigating the incident and examining Sugar for possible injuries. The U.S. Postal Service says it is also conducting an investigation into what happened. The agency says its employees have had previous encounters with peacocks in the area. Residents say they want accountability and are concerned about Sugar’s well-being as authorities determine what led to the confrontation and whether any action will be taken.
