Hundreds of California State University, Long Beach students are beginning the fall semester in hotels because renovations at La Playa Hall have not yet been completed. The dormitory project is reportedly in its final stages but still requires one final inspection of the building and its systems before students can move into their rooms. About 420 students are affected by the delay, with some saying they were not notified until the day they were scheduled to move in. University officials say the residence halls are essentially ready, but they have not provided students with a firm move-in date. In the meantime, affected students are being housed in local hotels as the university works to complete the remaining inspections. The unexpected housing change has created frustration for students preparing to start classes, particularly those who had already made plans based on their original move-in schedule. University officials say they will provide updates as soon as a confirmed move-in date is available.
