Waymo is introducing its new Ojai electric vans to Los Angeles, adding to a fleet of hundreds of self-driving vehicles already operating throughout the region. The vans feature upgraded passenger amenities, more interior space, and voice assistance powered by Google’s Gemini technology. The expansion comes as Waymo faces growing criticism from residents in several Los Angeles-area communities. People in Santa Monica, Westchester, and Ladera Heights have complained about increased traffic congestion, vehicles stopping or stalling in front of homes, and noise from nearby charging depots. Last month, a Santa Monica Superior Court judge ordered two Waymo charging stations to stop operating overnight following complaints from neighbors. Despite the concerns, Waymo continues expanding its autonomous vehicle operations in Southern California. The company says the new Ojai vans are designed to provide passengers with a more comfortable experience while helping meet growing demand for driverless transportation. The rollout marks another step in Waymo’s effort to expand its fleet and service area.
