This year’s developing Super El Niño could become one of the strongest El Niño events ever recorded. Dr. Jeffrey Shaman of Columbia Climate School says the weather pattern continues to strengthen and could rank as the most powerful El Niño in more than 75 years. The phenomenon is expected to bring increased rainfall to Southern California beginning as early as October, potentially providing some relief after years of drought and extreme heat. The southeastern United States has an even higher likelihood of experiencing above-average rainfall, with the chances exceeding 70 percent in some areas. Forecasters say the unusual weather pattern could persist into early 2027, affecting precipitation and temperatures across much of the country.
