The Santa Ana Police Department is conducting a use-of-force investigation following a video that shows officers pulling a man to the ground and repeatedly punching him. The incident happened October 1st, when 28-year-old Florentino Lopez was being arrested. Lopez is on felony probation and subject to search and seizure. An officer motioned for him to come over after seeing Lopez and a relative smoking marijuana on their front lawn. Video shows Lopez speaking with officers before they grab him and take him to the ground. His attorney, John Kremer, calls the officers’ actions excessive. Lopez is facing felony and misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and remains behind bars on 20-thousand dollars bail. Police have not released details about the investigation or said whether any officers face disciplinary action. The department says the incident is being reviewed as part of its use-of-force process. Lopez’s case remains pending as the investigation continues.
