Long-awaited repairs to the Oceanside Municipal Pier are moving forward, with temporary supports expected to be installed within the next few weeks. City Engineer Brian Thomas says 22 cable braces will help protect the fire-damaged end of the pier during the upcoming El Niño storm season and keep the structure stable until permanent repairs can be completed. A fire in April 2024 destroyed the former Ruby’s Diner building and the Brine Box restaurant at the end of the pier. The wider hammerhead section remains closed to the public, but approximately 90 percent of the pier is still open to visitors. Meanwhile, design work and permitting for permanent repairs are continuing. Construction could begin after Labor Day next year and is expected to take about eight months to finish. City officials hope the temporary bracing will help safeguard the damaged structure against severe weather while crews prepare for the larger restoration project. The repairs are expected to help preserve the popular Oceanside landmark for future visitors and residents alike.
