Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna is projected to win reelection by a wide margin, defeating former Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Current results show Luna leading with 69 percent of the vote, compared with 31 percent for Villanueva. Luna has received more than 1.2 million votes, while Villanueva has collected approximately 554-thousand. Luna first defeated Villanueva in 2022, ending his opponent’s single term as sheriff. The two faced off again in this year’s election, with Luna maintaining a substantial advantage as ballots were counted. The results point to another term for Luna, who will continue leading the nation’s largest sheriff’s department. Villanueva, who served as sheriff from 2018 to 2022, had sought to reclaim the office after losing his reelection bid four years ago. Luna’s projected victory marks another decisive win over his predecessor, extending his leadership of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
