Fired FBI Director James Comey was in the hot seat today. He testified in front of a Senate Intelligence panel investigating Russia’s possible influence in the 2016 election.
During his testimony, Comey dropped a few big headlines. He says he had a friend leak one of his memos to the New York times. Republican Senator Roy Blunt was perplexed by Comey’s decision. He asked Comey why he’d give those memo’s to someone else, verses releasing it himself.
Comey replied, “Because I was worried that the media was camping out at the end of my driveway at that point and I was actually going out of town with my wife to hide and I worried it would be like feeding seagulls at the beach.”
Comey was also asked about whether he felt the president was protecting his staff from being questioned, but Comey says the President welcomed a full investigation into whether there was collusion with anyone from the Trump campaign saying, “He said if one of my satellites did something wrong, it would be good to find that out.”
Comey’s testimony didn’t end there. He also faced a private grilling from the panel into classified issues he was unable to answer in an open hearing.
