In a move that recalls the tense days of the Cold War, Russia is set to move 100,000 troops close to the NATO border for a military exercise. Even more worrying, reports the New York Times, top American military officers say the maneuvers could be used as a pretext to increase Russia’s military presence in Belarus, a central European nation that borders three critical NATO allies: Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The exercise is called Zapad, which means west in Russian.
