Employees at the happiest place on earth want more money.
A coalition of 11 labor unions says it has the signatures it needs to put a measure on the November ballot. The measure aims to force Disney and other employers that accept city subsidies to pay workers $15 an hour starting in January1, 2019, with a dollar an hour raise every January 1 through 2022. Once it reaches $18 an hour, annual raises would then be tied to the cost of living.
Todd Ament, President and CEO of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, says it’s a job killer.
“This is ballot box wage control and it’s very dangerous for Anaheim. It’s the steepest climb of a minimum wage, that we’ve found ever in this country and it actually will kill jobs. It will kill more jobs than the people that it’s intended to help. It’s really the working poor, or working families in Anaheim that would pay the biggest price if it were to pass.”
Ament was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
