Los Angeles city employees who’ve been collecting big workers’ comp payouts are being exposed for excessive “skin and contact claims.”
Jack Dolan, investigative reporter for the L-A Times, says some city employees were able to soak the Deferred Retirement Option Plan – known as “DROP” – by claiming multiple job-related injuries.
”They walk into the doctor’s office with a bad knee and you know the guy looks at the knee and says, ‘How’s your back? How are you sleeping?’ You know, ‘Are you under a lot of stress?’ and the resulting workers’ comp claim will have like 10, 11, 12 body parts that the injured employee didn’t even think about before the doctor’s appointment.”
He says Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has indicated he’ll look at revising the plan.
