A judge has given the green light to Target to finally complete construction of its store in Hollywood.
Opposed by community groups against dense development in Hollywood, the 74-foot-high structure has been hung up in litigation for half a decade. L.A. City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell says even though the structure is more than twice the height allowed by the local planning rules, the area needs an economic shot in the arm.
“As it is designed, it is not blocking anyone’s view. It’s at a major intersection. It is in an under performing parcel right there at the corner of Sunset and Western.”
He says our region must build up its urban centers.
”If we don’t tackle that, then we’re going to play a role in encouraging more urban sprawl into our wilderness areas, which has its own sort of consequence in terms of the environment with wildfires now, because we have structures now in places that used to wild.”
Councilman Mitch O’Farrell was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
