Coyote attacks in Culver City have spiked and it’s has dozens of owners angry about the loss of their pets. To date, 50 kills of cats by coyotes have been documented.
Residents are calling for trapping and relocating or euthanizing some of the coyotes. Randi Feilich is the Socal representative with Project Coyote and she says that’s not necessary.
“It all comes back to educated coexistence. And, what that means is just prepare. If you’re going on a walk take a pop up umbrella. You know, bring a golf club along. Bring a baseball bat if you feel comfortable. Most of the time, coyotes will never approach you if you’re walking with your pet. They’re fearful of humans.”
A lot of pet owners are not in agreement with that line of thinking. A community meeting to discuss the issue is planned for sometime next week.
Feilich was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
