(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti does not support cutting the LAPD’s budget by 90-percent. During recent demonstrations over the death of George Floyd, protesters chanted “defund the police.” The People’s Budget proposal calls for the money allocated for the department to be used for housing, health care and mental health services. Garcetti did say Wednesday that he supports the call by the California Legislative Black Caucus to give reparations to African Americans for slavery.
NBC 4 reports: Garcetti said he also sent a letter of support to the California Legislative Black Caucus regarding its proposals to provide reparations to African Americans for slavery, to restore voting rights to people on parole for felony convictions, to end the state’s ban on affirmative action and strengthen emergency response services for “historically neglected communities.”
People Protesting District Attorney Jackie Lacey
(Los Angeles, CA) — Protesters have turned their attention to Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey. Thousands of demonstrators flooded downtown L.A. Wednesday saying Lacey is not prosecuting police officers for misconduct. There have been calls for Lacey to be fired. Lacey is running for re-election and cnnot be “fired”. She says nearly two dozen cops have been prosecuted while she’s been in office. The LAPD says they are taking every complaint against the department seriously.
