Calls to defund the police in Los Angeles County are extending to the transit system. KTLA reports nearly 650-million dollars is spend in a five year period policing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Local activists say crime is relatively low in the over 14-hundred mile service area and the money would be better spend elsewhere. They suggest using the money of free fares or for hiring more outreach workers to help the homeless living in the transit system.
