LA Councilman Wants Armed Police Off Traffic Stops
(Los Angeles, CA) — A Los Angeles city councilman says someone else should make routine traffic stops instead of armed police. On Tuesday, Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson proposed the L.A. Department of Transportation start pulling people over for simple infractions like failing to signal or having a busted taillight. Harris-Dawson says he’s personally had a gun pointed at him four times by cops during traffic stops. He adds that police should be given the resources to fight violent crime but stop pulling people just for what’s been coined as “driving while black.”
