Crews Remove Both Columbus Statues In Chicago
(Chicago, IL) — Both of Chicago’s Christopher Columbus statues are down. A group of protesters cheered after crews removed the controversial statue in Grant Park with a crane overnight. Another Columbus statue in Arrigo Park was taken down later in the morning. The removals follow reports Thursday that Mayor Lori Lightfoot was planning to remove both statues. The mayor’s decision comes after violent clashes between police and protesters attempting to take down the Grant Park statue last Friday.
