(Cherry Valley, CA) — A massive wildfire that has burned through more than 26-thousand acres in Riverside County was started by a vehicle’s mechanical malfunction. Investigators with Cal Fire say the Apple Fire began last Friday after a vehicle emitting burning carbon from its exhaust system lit dry brush in the area, which quickly spread due to the low humidity. The fire has since destroyed several buildings and triggered several evacuation orders in the area. Roughly two-thousand firefighters are currently working to contain the Apple Fire, but steep and rugged terrain are making it difficult to access the front lines. The Apple Fire is currently five percent contained.
